Kinesiology Taping

What is Kinesiology Taping?
Nowadays, whenever you turn on a television or go online to watch sports, you may notice that athletes have colored strips of tape on them. This is called kinesiology taping (kinesio tape). The tape is designed to act like the skin, as it has the same type of stretching and elasticity, and it allows for its user to be able to be fully mobile while providing support for the muscles and joints that it is being applied on. The tapes are generally latex free, as it has an acrylic-based adhesive. For your first time, a test strip will be applied early to see if any allergic reactions may occur. The tape causes a microscopic lift on the skin, which increases the amount of space in between it and the muscles, which increases interstitial space and facilitates a decrease in the inflammation of the target areas.

There are many different brands of kinesiology tape, and different methods that are applied in practice. In order to be able to best serve you, our practitioners are certified in both the Kinesio Method and the Rocktape Fascial Movement Taping methods. Please ask your therapist if kinesiology would be recommended for you.
